When technology and design come together
The Terminal 2 premises at Václav Havel Airport in Prague are tested by thousands of steps every day, and few people suspect that the unique floor here is made of technology from AWAC. Our company participated in the implementation of this architecturally demanding project, where the key to success was the precise processing of ceramic tiles. Thanks to our technological background, we were able to transform these highly durable large-format materials into perfect design elements that have been handling the onslaught of millions of passengers annually since 2002 without any problems.
How the famous stone globes were created
The main aesthetic dominant of the departure hall became the impressive floor maps depicting the continents of the Earth, which today serve as a popular meeting place. We cut four giant circles with a diameter of 8 and 16 meters from different colored shades of paving using a computer-controlled water jet. It was this technology that made it possible to achieve absolute shape accuracy without burrs and microcracks. This ensured the perfect fit of the individual continents into the resulting monolithic mosaic.
